Insta-Friday

life rearranged

A few randoms from this week:

These were in five dollar bin at Target.  These were two of my favorite movies when I was a kid.  We have rewatched them both this week.  "Did he just say funky butt-loving?"

So I made a few new recipes this week successfully.  I'm on a domestic roll. These strawberry muffins were to DIE FOR.  Ryan doesn't like chocolate OR peanut butter (*gasp*), so I am always on the lookout for desserts that don't have either of those.  This oatmeal spice cake with brown butter frosting was a winner with all three of us.

Ryan has a new job which means he officially quit 7-11 [insert Hallelujah chorus here].  The tiny old Walmart in town is finally getting the facelift into a huge nice Super Walmart and Ryan is in charge of all of the new departments (meat, bakery, frozen, produce, dairy and the deli).  His new job comes with a much shorter commute, an employee discount, and no overnight shifts!  They gave him a few days off before he begins training and we have been loving having him home.

We tried to squeeze in a Labor Day trip to Dorney Park and Wild Water Kingdom but the weather didn't cooperate...

I had a quick trip to Lancaster.  This is always a familiar sight when I am at my mom's.

When I was there my mom had picked me up this hot pink shirt from H and M.  You can't really see from the picture but the top part is sheer fabric.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE that it is neon and pink. (Ryan is coming to the realization that I will probably be one of those old ladies in gawdy polyester pantsuits).

Lastly, I finally had to force myself to retire my favorite Zebra bag.  It has been such a good, faithful purse for many years.  I am on the lookout for a good replacement.

How is your weekend shaping up?  We have soccer, I am doing a wedding workshop at the Paper Source that will hopefully result in getting my wedding invitations out.

Perfect Saturday

Do you ever just have just a wonderful day, that leaves you so content and grateful when you hop in bed at night? That was me Saturday.

First of all, I had a great hair day.

I spent Friday night at my parent's house in Lancaster because my favorite almost second grader was spending the day at beach in Atlantic City with his dad and "56 of his dad's closest friends".

After a huge breakfast with my parents at a cute little diner, my mom and I headed out to Blue Ball, for Blue Ball Days (go ahead and giggle, I know it is funny).  Basically, the entire town has a yardsale.  We went last year and I made out pretty well, so now it's a tradition.  The Amish and Mennonites take yardsaling very seriously.  They will put anything up for sale.  We saw old rusty tools, bras, ancient appliances.   They also set up shop selling food, drinks and lemonade.

I didn't buy these (too expensive... and Ryan would have killed me if I wore them anywhere...)

But I did buy these:
Having taught kindergarten and first for the past four years, I have discovered I am lacking age appropriate materials for third graders.  I could have brought home four times as many books.  There were great books everywhere we went.

After that I went home and met up with Ryan for a bit.  We had been coming and going all week it felt like, and it was so nice to just take some time together to reconnect.  He was able to join us for my brother Joe's birthday dinner.  We had a very fancy schmancy dinner at Creed's in King of Prussia.  Then, of course, we had to do Zwahlen's for dessert.

Hope your Monday is super!

It's time to admit...

Summer is gone...

And fall is here....

I am in full on soccer mom mode...
(that tank top was .47 cents from Old Navy!  Seriously!!!!! And it perfectly matches the flip flops I had bought from there a few summers ago)
This is the view from my lawn chair every Tuesday and Thursday...
That's Isaac in blue.
My grad class schedule had conflicted with soccer practice all summer long, so Ryan ended up taking over my soccer mom duties.  Now I feel a little behind; when we set up shop during practices all of the other moms greet him and chitchat with him and I am the new kid on the block.  It's actually pretty cute.  I still have a long way to to go to be up to snuff with them too. I only pretend to understand what "off sides" is. I have discovered that "Stay with him!" is a good generic thing to shout out when Isaac is on defense, and "Come on Isaac! " does the trick when he is at the opposite end.

I didn't know how I would feel about it now that I am working again but this week went well.  It was nice to sit in the cool evening air with a book and a Diet Coke and decompress after a long day at work.

Isaac with his dad.  (It's like my genes contributed NOTHING to make Isaac, isn't it?)

I don't really have an athletic bone in my body, so it has been fun to see that Isaac not only enjoys soccer but excels at it. We are into the full swing of the season with practices twice a week and games and tournaments every weekend, it is all hands on deck.  (You guys, I don't know how some parents juggle multiple children in multiple activities!  It's crazy!  All of us have to plan our lives around this particular committment).

with the coach... not too sure what I am doing in this picture...

Aren't they so cute?

Although I refuse to drive a mini-van, I am proud of Isaac.  As long as he loves playing, I will gladly keep the title of soccer mom.

A few pics for a Monday

Sometimes I can't believe how big Isaac has become.  He is a skinny little beanpole-- all legs.  We went for a family walk last night and Isaac turned it into a family jog.  (He would probably be mortified that a picture of him in his nightshirt has been posted to the internet too... He is easily embarassed and apparently I am *quite* embarassing!)

We went to King of Prussia Mall the other day and MAC Cosmetics was having a huge event in honor of their new fall makeup line.  A random lady asked me if I wanted to have my make-up done and I agreed.  It is not every day that I get a chance to have my makeup done by a professional artist.  I thought it turned out really nicely.  I wish I was more capable and could recreate the look on myself again.

Ryan did his best to hang, but his schedule of overnight shifts continues to take it's toll....

I survived back to school night and today will be my first day with students!!!

Have a great Monday!!

is currently...

Loving: my new school and grade level team!  Don't get me wrong, I am still quite nervous and fairly overwhelmed with switching to a new school and grade level, but I am really enjoying my new school and coworkers. I was getting completely burnt out ready for a change from my old job, and this seems to be a good fit. The climate there is so relaxed and friendly.  This week was just meetings and classroom prep time, with an open house sprinkled in the mix.  I did get to meet a few of our kids and parents.  The kids show up Monday, so ready or not, here we go...

Reading: Janet Evanovich's Hot Six.  I think  I have blogged before that Ryan got me into the Stephanie Plum series.  Since he has been working like crazy this summer and I have hardly worked at all, I have caught up to him.  We are actually both reading this book.  We tried for about 24 hours to share the same copy  before Ryan got completely exasperated with me and downloaded it to the iPad.  These books are soooo funny!

Watching: Project Runway and Modern Family, the latter I have just started from Netflix.  I am fully aware that I am extremely late to the Modern Family party.

The other night I just wanted some mindless television to relax to in bed and ended up on the Style Network  watching some old reruns of Sex and the City.  It was towards the end of the show when Miranda has Brady and is just struggling to be a good mom and maintain the status quo as a hot shot lawyer.  Finally she ended up going to tell her boss she was cutting back on work and then walked home and put Brady to bed.  I ended up totally tearing up, raising my fist in solidarity and saying "You go Miranda, you go girl!" When I used to watch that show originally I always thought she sort of a less interesting character, but now that I am a mom, I relate to her in a totally different way.  I kind of love her and want to be her.... ANYWAYS...

Thinking About: the Save the Dates that still need to be addressed and sent, the cake people I need to call, how long it's been since I vaccummed my carpets, etc. etc.  Between starting a new job, planning a wedding, keeping up with Isaac and all of his commitments, my mind always seems to be racing and it seems like I am always trying to squeeze in one more thing.

Anticipating: some family bonding time this weekend.  We have been making great use of our season passes to Dorney Park and I anticpate a few more trips up there before the season is over.

I'm not going to lie, I am also looking forward to school starting.  The summer is so relaxing , but Isaac and I thrive on a full schedule and routine.  I like lazy summer days with nothing on the agenda, but I am ready for the hustle and bustle of fall.

Wishing: that Ryan has some luck on the job search.  We aren't too happy with his current job but it has been slow going finding something that is a good fit (hours, salary, commute, a neighborhood where there aren't bullets flying regularly, etc).  Keep your fingers crossed that he is able to stumble across the right job.

Making me Happy:  So many things!  These new shoes (pink AND studded AND less than 20 bucks?!  I hit the motherload!).

Lush products.  I am mildy obsessed with that store.  In the past month I have bought this and this and this (and this and this and this...).  I bought their little foot care kit and made Ryan use it with me.  Here is a shot of us in the midst of our foot mask.

Therapeutic Thursday -- Destressing from School

Therapeutic Thursday...

How do I relax after a long day/week at work?

I don't have a cute picture or anything, but I really made an effort last year to leave work at work when I left at the end of the day.  I stopped checking my work e-mails in the evenings after I had been home for a few hours.  To the extent that it was possible, I tried to avoid bringing work home with me, opting to stay at school until it was done.  I felt like I balanced things a lot better last year, having better boundaries with school and home.  Now that I am doing a brand new grade and basically starting over, we will see if I can be as good about it as last year.

I like to meet with up with girlfriends at a cozy restaurant in the city, eat good food, gossip and laugh.  This is one of my favorites places in Center City.

I am not a huge TV person, but I go on jags where I like to mindless watch hours of a particular show on Netflix.
Recently I have watched season after season of Glee, Intervention, The Biggest Loser, Teen Mom, Modern Family and Psych.

And spending time with your best friend always helps too...

Thanks for hopping over!!

Check it out
